The CBT uses a $12 million endowment to “to assist the Clayoquot Sound UNESCO Biosphere Reserve Region Community to achieve its vision by providing funding and logistical support for research, education and training initiatives that promote conservation and sustainable development.” Give them a call and ask them how.

Logging in Clayoquot Sound: Iisaak Forest Resources
Iisaak is a First Nations-led company that operates exclusively in Clayoquot Sound. Iisaak is “committed to Hishuk-ish ts’awalk (pronounced He-shook ish sha-walk), the Nuu-chah-nulth belief of respecting the limits of what is extracted and the interconnectedness of all things.” Ask them about some of their challenges in creating this new type of logging company.

Friends of Clayoquot Sound: Ancient Forests Campaign / Salmon Farming Campaign
The Friends of Clayoquot Sound are “strongly opposed to logging of old growth temperate rainforests in Clayoquot Sound and globally,” and “believe that open net-cage salmon farms in the ocean pose unacceptable risks to the marine environment and to wild salmon.” Ask one of their staff to explain how these two seemingly unrelated goals are intricately connected.
