our mission

Our mission is to initiate, encourage and enable research, education and conversations that will help people to understand how to live in a place without diminishing it.

The facility provides an affordable venue for students, researchers and visitors engaged in learning and discovery. Researchers and students are priority visitors at CFS.We also welcome guests who are interested in staying in our educational dormitory (hostel-style) setting.

The Clayoquot Field Station is an interdisciplinary facility. We encourage interactions between students and researchers, writers, artists; people who work in the realm of ideas. These interactions can take place outside, in the classroom and, perhaps most importantly, in the dining room, the garden, a rowboat, or on the mudflats.
